Reading Police Lieutenant David Clark Promoted to Deputy Chief
READING — Chief Mark D. Segalla is pleased to announce that Lt. David Clark has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief of the Reading Police Department.
As Deputy Chief, Clark will establish a line of command and foster the professional growth and development of the department to further community relationships in Reading.
“Deputy Clark’s 20-plus year career with the Reading Police Department shows his commitment not only to public safety, but also specifically to the Reading community,” Chief Segalla said. “I am pleased to have him as my second in command, and expect great things from him as he assumes this new role.”
Deputy Clark began his career in 1995 as a patrol officer with the Reading Police Department and in 2005 was then promoted to sergeant and the Night Patrol Supervisor. In 2010, Deputy Clark became an instructor for the Municipal Police Training Committee, where he teaches for the veteran police officer’s annual in-service program as well as the part-time police academy.
For nearly 10 years, Deputy Clark maintained his rank as sergeant before earning the rank of lieutenant and the Night Patrol Division Commander. During his time in this role, Deputy Clark oversaw the night-side operations of sergeants and patrolmen.
In addition, Deputy Clark held a number of specified roles while serving as a lieutenant, including New Hire Coordinator, Field Training Officer Manager, National Incident-Based Reporting System Coordinator, Rape Aggression Defense Program Coordinator and EMT Coordinator, among others.
Prior to becoming a police officer, Deputy Clark was an EMT and served as an officer in the United States Army.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to step in as Deputy Chief of the Reading Police Department,” Deputy Clark said. “This is an incredible honor, and I look forward to further serving the community where I have spent my entire life.”
Deputy Clark holds a master’s degree in criminal justice administration from Western New England College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Salem State University. A Reading native, Deputy Clark still lives in town with his wife and twin 12-year-old boys.
