Littleton Police Arrest Man for OUI After He Crashes Into Cruiser
LITTLETON – Chief Matthew J. King reports that the Littleton Police Department arrested a man for Operating Under the Influence (OUI) of Drugs last night after he crashed head-on into a police cruiser.
TIMOTHY J. WALSH, AGE 31, OF AYER, is charged with:
- OUI Drugs, Third Offense
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Marked Lanes Violation
At approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, a Littleton police officer responded to the area of Ayer Road for a report of an erratic driver. As the officer arrived on scene, just past New Estate Road, he observed a vehicle on the shoulder of the road facing the wrong direction.
As the vehicle, operated by WALSH, re-entered the roadway, it struck the cruiser head-on. The officer took evasive actions in an attempt to avoid the vehicle and was able lessen the impact of the crash. He immediately checked WALSH for injuries and secured the scene.
Through an investigation, the officer determined that WALSH was under the influence of drugs and arrested him.
Both WALSH and the officer were transported to an area hospital for evaluation and released.
“While thankfully neither the officer or operator were injured in this crash, this incident shows that officers never know what will happen while they are on patrol,” Chief King said. “This officer’s immediate actions and concern for the other operator demonstrates the high quality of policing within our department.”
WALSH was held overnight at the Littleton police station pending his arraignment at Ayer District Court today.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
