Pepperell Police Chief David Scott Attends White House Police Briefing
PEPPERELL – The Pepperell Police Department is pleased to announce that Chief David Scott traveled to the White House on Tuesday to participate in a briefing on the Final Report of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.
The report includes the task force’s 59 recommendations for police departments that fall within six main pillars: Building Trust and Legitimacy, Policy and Oversight, Technology and Social Media, Community Policing and Crime Reduction, Training and Education, and Officer Safety and Wellness.
In May 2016, the Community Oriented Policing Services Office launched the Advancing 21st Century Policing Initiative, which provides hands-on assessments and technical assistance to a cohort of law enforcement agencies that have already made strides in advancing implementation of the task force’s recommendations. The project also seeks to produce guiding materials for other agencies to use in their efforts to advance those policing practices.
“As a police chief, any time you can learn how to implement additional best practices, you want that information. Discussion with peers from across the country at a location like the White House certainly supplements the information received,” Chief Scott said. “Many of the recommendations are already in practice at the Pepperell Police Department, but we will examine the report more closely. We are always striving to improve.”
