Newport, Vt. Police Arrest Man for Aggravated Assault
NEWPORT, Vt. — Police Chief Seth C. DiSanto reports that the Newport Police Department arrested a man over the weekend for aggravated assault.
On Sunday, Aug. 14, at approximately 5:47 p.m., Newport Police were called to Eastern Avenue in Newport for the report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, officers found a 44-year-old male victim laying on the ground in the westbound lane of Eastern Avenue near the intersection of Coventry Street, with a large laceration. He was transported to an area hospital via ambulance for treatment and released the same night.
After an initial investigation, which included interviews with witnesses, police were able to locate the suspect nearby at his home.
MARC GERO, AGE 49, OF NEWPORT, is charged with Aggravated Assault.
GERO was taken into custody without incident. He is being held without bail at the Northern State Correctional Facility following his arraignment.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
