Pepperell Police Charge Juvenile Following Distracted Driving Crash with Serious Injuries
PEPPERELL – Chief David Scott reports that the Pepperell Police Department, in conjunction with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, will charge a 17-year-old juvenile after a distracted driving crash that resulted in serious injuries.
A 17-YEAR-OLD JUVENILE, OF PEPPERELL, is charged with Negligent Operation with Injury from Mobile Phone Use.
On April 28, police responded to Main Street (Route 113) after a then 16-year-old male in a 2009 Hyundai Sonata crossed into the opposite lane of traffic while traveling on Main Street and struck a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker head-on.
At the time of the crash, it was determined that the suspect was using a mobile device while operating his vehicle. The woman in the Chevrolet sustained serious injuries and is still recovering.
The juvenile driver was initially cited by Pepperell Police at the scene. Last week, a lengthy investigation conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office concluded that the driver should be criminally charged with Negligent Operation with Injury from Mobile Phone Use.
The suspect’s name is not being released, as he is a juvenile. He will be arraigned at a later date at Middlesex Juvenile Court.
