Hull Police Arrest Man for Possession of Explosive Device
HULL — Chief Robert C. Sawtelle reports that the Hull Police Department arrested a man after discovering an explosive device in his possession while officers were investigating a breaking and entering at his home.
KEVIN P. BUTLER, AGE 26, OF HULL is charged with:
- Possession of Explosive/Destructive Device (Felony)
- Possession of Anabolic Steroids (Misdemeanor)
- Disturbing the Peace (Misdemeanor)
On July 19, at approximately 12 p.m., officers responded to a call for a past breaking and entering, larceny from the building and a report of a stolen motor vehicle from a residence on Nantasket Avenue. BUTLER, the victim, reported a safe containing a quantity of cash stolen, as well as his motor vehicle.
During course of investigation, the vehicle was recovered unoccupied a short distance away on Beach Avenue. While on scene at BUTLER’s Nantasket Avenue residence, officers discovered what appeared to be an explosive device. Hull Police secured the scene, and the Hull Fire Department, along with the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, responded to the area.
The State Police Bomb Squad rendered the device — an approximately five-inch cylinder packed with what appears to be an explosive powder — to be safe. A State Trooper assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office took possession of the device.
As a result, BUTLER was arrested, charged, and released on bail pending his arraignment at Hingham District Court tomorrow.
The alleged breaking and entering at BUTLER’s Nantasket Avenue home is also under investigation. No arrests have been made.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
