Melrose High School Student Group Wins AMP It Up! Challenge
MELROSE – Melrose High School Interim Principal Jason Merrill is pleased to announce that one of MHS’ student groups won this year’s AMP it up! Challenge.
A creative video production competition, AMP it up! invited students to research the inner workings of an advanced manufacturing innovation to explain how it impacts the world around them in a three-minute video. Entries had to capture three main ideas about a product, including how it is made, why it matters, and what it means to the creator of the video.
The winning group, one of three entries from MHS, created a video illustrating the industrial processes of Zildjian Cymbals in Norwell. Submissions were viewed by a panel of judges and voted on by the public. Winners were announced on June 1.
“This was a rigorous project that involved creative research and video production, and our students rose to the challenge,” Principal Merrill said. “I would like to congratulate the Zildjian Cymbals group for their win.”
Melrose High School will receive $5,000 from MassDevelopment, the sponsoring organization behind the AMP it up! Challenge. The money won by the students will be reinvested into the program by adding and upgrading equipment.
“The experience the students had working with Zildjian Cymbals and seeing its manufacturing process was something they will never forget,” said Anthony DiBenedetto, MHS Video Production teacher. “MHS-TV is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the challenge, and we look forward to doing it again next year!”
Other MHS entries included videos on Boston Centerless and Richie’s Slush.
