Georgetown Fire Department Responds to Single-Car Crash on Route 95

GEORGETOWN – Chief Fred A. Mitchell Jr. reports that the Georgetown Fire Department responded to a single-car crash on Route 95 in Georgetown earlier this week.

On Wednesday, June 29 at approximately 7 p.m., the Georgetown Fire Department, along with the Rowley and Boxford Fire Departments, responded to the scene of a single-car crash on Route 95.

Upon arrival, first responders found that a 74-year-old woman traveling northbound on Route 95 had lost control of her vehicle. The car traveled through the median strip and crossed all four lanes of southbound traffic before driving down the grassy area on the other side of the highway and entering the woods near the Pingree Farm Road abutment.

According to Deputy Chief Russ Moyer, who was the Officer in Charge at the scene, the vehicle missed several large trees before ultimately coming to a stop at the top of a hill. Due to the terrain and location of the car, firefighters had to secure the vehicle and carefully plan the extraction of the driver.

After approximately 45 minutes, the woman was safely removed from her vehicle and immediately evaluated by Georgetown Fire EMTs and Atlantic Ambulance paramedics, who provided ALS support on scene. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“Thankfully, the firefighters and EMTs were able to remove this victim safely from her vehicle due to the patience and hard work of the first responders on scene,” Chief Mitchell said. “Thank you to all of those who provided mutual aid and station coverage so we could focus our efforts on getting this woman to safety.”

Crews were on scene for nearly two hours. The Groveland and Boxford Fire Departments provided station coverage while Georgetown remained on scene.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
