Great Barrington Police Cite Driver Who Struck Pedestrian
GREAT BARRINGTON — Chief William Walsh reports that the Great Barrington Police Department cited a man yesterday after he struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., a driver on Dresser Avenue was making a left-hand turn onto Main Street when he struck a 49-year-old woman in the crosswalk in front of the Post Office. The victim was transported to Fairview Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, treated and released a short time later.
A 52-year-old Mount Washington man was issued a $100 civil citation for Failure to Stop for a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk by Great Barrington Police Officer Christopher Peebles.
This accident comes as Great Barrington Police have stepped up their enforcement of the crosswalk law, as well as addressing speeding issues on Main Street.
“We’re cracking down on these issues and people who are speeding or not yielding to pedestrians are going to start receiving citations, a lot of them,” Chief Walsh said.
