Bedford, N.H. Police Remind Residents To Secure Vehicles After Attempted Break-In Overnight
BEDFORD, N.H. – Chief John Bryfonski and the Bedford Police Department are reminding residents to secure their vehicles and belongings after arresting a man for attempting to break into cars last night.
MATTHEW PEDLEY, AGE 42, OF LONDONDERRY, was arrested and charged with attempted Theft from a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Prowling.
Just before 11:30 p.m., Bedford Police responded to the area of 31 Rice Lane on reports of a man looking through car windows. PEDLEY was found hiding in nearby woods by a New Hampshire State Police K-9 unit.
PEDLEY was released on $5,000 personal recognizance pending his arraignment in Merrimack District Court on July 12.
“Thefts from motor vehicles and car break-ins continue to be a problem in Bedford,” Chief Bryfonski said. “The majority of thefts from motor vehicles occur late at night and involve the vehicles being unlocked. Please make sure to lock your car and remove all valuables every time you exit your vehicle.”
In order to prevent thefts from a motor vehicle, Bedford Police urge citizens to always lock their vehicles, even if it is in your driveway, and to never leave belongings, especially those of value, in the car or in plain view.
Bedford Police will have an increased presence throughout the community, but advise community members to be proactive in protecting their belongings.
If the public sees anything out of the ordinary or finds that any of their belongings have been stolen from their vehicle, they are encouraged to call the Bedford Police Department at 603-472-5113.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
