Photos: Bedford Firefighters Honored During Annual Awards Ceremony

BEDFORD – Fire Chief David Grunes is pleased to announce that several Bedford Firefighters were honored at an annual awards ceremony at the Bedford Fire Station yesterday.

On Thursday, June 2 at 11 a.m., numerous members of the department received awards for various achievements over the last year during the department’s annual cookout and recognition ceremony. Representative Ken Gordon was in attendance and presented each recipient with a citation from the House of Representatives signed by House Speaker Robert A. Deleo.

The department gave out three service awards:

20 Years of Service:

• Capt. Mark Sullivan

Graduation from Fire Academy:

• Firefighter Erik Smallenberger, graduated on Jan. 15, 2016.
• Firefighter Daniel Curtin, graduated on May 20, 2016.

The department also gave out two meritorious awards:

Assisting with the delivery of a baby boy: 

• Firefighter Sam Panzeri
• Firefighter Dana Park
• Firefighter Pat Stewart
• Firefighter John Perry

Team award to Group 3 for the collective response, treatment and positive outcome to three critical patients during a two month time period:

• Lt. Michael Bauman
• Firefighter Charlie Nickerson
• Firefighter David Dillen
• Firefighter Joseph Barrila
• Firefighter Shaun Kennery
• Firefighter Michael Sargent
• Firefighter Brian Fedele

Recommendations for the recipients of these awards are put forward by the Bedford Fire Department captains and lieutenants, and reviewed by the command staff.

“I would like to congratulate every member of the department who received an award today, on their outstanding achievements and dedication to the fire service,” Chief Grunes said. “It is an honor to work alongside these individuals and I know we will continue to hand out awards for the hard work of Bedford firefighters.”
