Wakefield Police Monitoring Man Seen Taking Photos of Children at Schools, Parks and Playgrounds
WAKEFIELD – Chief Rick Smith reports that the Wakefield Police Department is investigating multiple reports of a man taking photos of children at various parks, playgrounds and preschools, but has found no evidence of criminal activity at this time.
Police have spoken to the man on multiple occasions, explaining that the department has received complaints about his actions, which have been making many residents uncomfortable.
The man was cooperative and explained to police that he is a photographer. He willingly showed the officer his digital camera, which revealed no inappropriate photos. The man then agreed to stop.
Although no crime has been uncovered at this time, Wakefield Police continue to actively monitor the situation and follow up on any new information they receive.
“We recognize that this situation has caused concern for many parents in town and we are working to ensure that children are safe at all times,” Chief Smith said. “The Wakefield Police Department takes all reports of suspicious activity seriously, especially when it involves children.”
Anyone who sees something that seems out of place, or that makes them nervous, is encouraged to call the Wakefield Police Department at 781-245-1212.
