Wakefield Police Honored by Town During First Responders Week
WAKEFIELD – Chief Rick Smith is pleased to announce that the Wakefield Police Department was honored by the town’s Board of Selectmen during First Responders Week.
The honorary week, which ran from April 25 to May 1, was designated as such by the Board of Selectmen at their meeting last week. Many officers, as well as firefighters and emergency personnel from Action Ambulance, attended the meeting to be honored by the board and the town.
Board of Selectmen chairman Ann Santos specifically highlighted the “rank and file” first responders who work the front lines, not just those who lead the department. As the wife of a police officer herself, Santos also thanked the families of first responders, who share their loved ones with an entire community.
“We are honored to be recognized by the town of Wakefield for our service,” Chief Smith said. “It is our duty and promise to protect our community, but we also take great pride in the relationships we establish with our town residents.”
The Town of Wakefield’s Proclamation:
“We, the members of the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Wakefield bestow the following:
That first responders are a diverse group of professionals from across the country with backgrounds in police, fire and medical services, among others.
“That these selfless individuals are prepared to assist the residents of Wakefield at a moment’s notice, often putting their own lives in danger to help others.
“That first responders are instrumental in saving those who have been injured, protecting property and shepherding bystanders to safety.
“That it is important that all citizens of Wakefield know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards and sacrifices made by their first responders.
“Now, therefore, we the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Wakefield on April 25, 2016 call upon all citizens of Wakefield, and all patriotic, civic and educational organizations to observe the week of April 25, 2016 through May 1, 2016 as First Responder Week in Wakefield, Massachusetts.”
