Newburyport Police Implement Sergeant Liaison Program for Residents
NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray announces that the Newburyport Police Department is beginning a Sergeant Liaison Program to assist the community with their needs, concerns or questions.
The initiative begins today and is designed to give residents a personal contact within the department.
A police sergeant, who citizens can reach out to directly to address quality of life issues, is assigned to each ward of the city. To ensure a smooth transition and efficiency going forward, ward councilors will be in constant contact with their designated sergeant.
Marshal Murray recommends that if residents are contacting their ward sergeant by email, they should also include their ward councilor so all issues can be addressed by the appropriate city official.
“Assigning a member of the Newburyport Police Department to each ward is going to greatly increase the lines of communication throughout the city and we hope that residents will reach out to their assigned sergeant without hesitation,” Marshal Murray added. “We feel that the Sergeant Liaison Program is going to be a great addition to the services already provided to residents.”
The following sergeants have been appointed to the city’s six wards:
Ward 1 Councilor Sharif I. Zeid
Ward Liaison Sgt. Charles Eaton ceaton@newburyportpolice.com
Ward 2 Councilor Jared J. Eigermen
Ward Liaison Sgt. William Steeves wsteeves@newburyportpolice.com
