Arlington Police Charge Man With OUI, Operating to Endanger After Crashing Into Utility Pole
ARLINGTON — Chief Frederick Ryan reports that the Arlington Police Department has charged a man after he crashed his truck into a utility pole yesterday.
The 45-year-old man is charged with OUI (drugs) and Operating to Endanger. He will be summonsed to Cambridge District Court.
On Tuesday, April 19 at approximately 8:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of 170 Pleasant St. on a report that a motor vehicle had crashed into a utility pole.
Officer Michael Hogan witnessed the vehicle crash into the pole at a steady rate of speed and notified police, who were dispatched to the scene, along with Arlington Fire and Rescue.
After an initial investigation, officers determined that the operator of the vehicle showed signs of opiate use and was possibly overdosing. Based on the operator’s condition, he was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge via Arlington Rescue for further medical evaluation.
“Unfortunately, this individual’s reckless actions created a potentially dangerous situation for himself, other operators and pedestrians,” Chief Ryan said. “Thanks to the quick response from emergency responders, no one else was injured and this man received immediate medical attention.”
As a result of this crash, all access to Pleasant Street was restricted from Massachusetts Avenue to the Concord Turnpike (Route 2) for more than eight hours, causing major traffic issues throughout town.
