Natick Police Investigate Hoax Threat at Movie Theater
NATICK — Chief James G. Hicks reports that the Natick Police Department is investigating a telephone threat made against a movie theater in town that proved to be unfounded.
At 7:46 p.m. Friday, a staff member at the IMAX 3D Theater at Jordan’s Furniture Natick received a live phone call stating that there was a bomb and an armed gunman inside the theater.
Management evacuated the theater, the furniture store, and the restaurant in the complex and called police. Natick Police quickly arrived and requested the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police, which sent a bomb squad technician and a K-9. Police swept the building and determined that there was no threat to public safety. The building was cleared to reopen shortly after 9 p.m.
The Natick Police Department is aware of other hoax threats made against locations in other communities in Massachusetts tonight. This incident is actively under investigation, and no determination has been made in regards to any connection among the incidents.
“The Natick Police Department takes all threats and calls for service seriously,” Chief Hicks said. ‘We will actively investigate in an effort to determine who is responsible for this unfounded call.”
