Exeter Police Provide Update on Ongoing Investigations into Allegations of Misconduct at Phillips Exeter Academy
Police Ask Anyone with Information to Contact Exeter Police Department Detectives
EXETER — Police Chief William Shupe reports that the Exeter Police Department has received a number of reports submitted by alumni of Phillips Exeter Academy to the school, which then turned the reports over to the police department.
At this time, the Exeter Police Department is actively investigating each report. Some of the reports contain secondhand information or rumors, but based upon a review of the reports, the Exeter Police Department has opened several separate investigations concerning sexual misconduct and abuse of students by at least two current or former faculty members of the school.
The Exeter Police Department will provide updates on these investigations as soon as possible, however Chief Shupe is grateful for the community’s patience and partnership as these investigations are in the beginning stages.
The Exeter Police Department is asking anyone who has any information about misconduct or abuse; or who may be a victim; or who has any concerns or questions to contact Exeter Police Detective Sergeant Michael Munck directly at 603-773-6144 or via email at mmunck@exeternh.gov.
The Exeter Police Department has added additional staff from the patrol division to the detectives division to assist in ensuring an expedient and thorough investigation.
“The Exeter Police Department takes any allegations concerning the sexual abuse of children very seriously, and we want to assure the community that we are conducting a complete and impartial investigation into each claim,” Chief Shupe said. “We are very grateful to those who have come forward, and we are thankful for the support of the public as we conduct our investigations.”
