Bedford Police Remind Residents To Secure Vehicles, Belongings Following Numerous Vehicle Break-ins

BEDFORD, N.H. – As the weather gets warmer and thefts from motor vehicles tend to increase, Chief John Bryfonski and the Bedford Police Department are reminding residents to secure their vehicles and belongings as part of the “Lock It or Lose It” campaign.

According to Bedford Police, over 90 percent of these thefts occur at residences when vehicle doors are left unlocked.

In order to prevent thefts from a motor vehicle, Bedford Police urge citizens to always lock their vehicles, even if it is in your driveway, and to never leave their belongings, especially those of value, in the car or in plain view. 

“We strongly advise residents to lock their vehicles at all times,” Chief Bryfonski said. “The majority of thefts from motor vehicles occur late at night and involve the vehicles being unlocked. The best way to prevent this from happening is to take the simple step of making sure that vehicles are locked and that valuable belongings are moved out of sight and safely secured.”

Bedford Police will have an increased presence throughout the community, but advise community members to be proactive in protecting their belongings.
