Bedford Police Arrest Man for Reckless Operation of Motor Vehicle
BEDFORD, N.H. — Chief John Bryfonski reports that the Bedford Police Department arrested a man for recklessly operating a motor vehicle and putting another in danger this morning.
At approximately 7:50 a.m., Officer Robert Lavoie was stationed on Ledgewood Drive monitoring traffic due to numerous complaints of speeding vehicles in the neighborhood.
Officer Lavoie observed a vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed down a hill to his location. At that time, a woman and child were standing at the end of a driveway waiting to cross the street to a bus stop. According to police, JOHN J. VELEZ JR., AGE 27, OF MILFORD, was allegedly traveling 76 mph in a 30 mph zone on Ledgewood Drive.
VELEZ is charged with:
- Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Reckless Conduct, Placing Another in Danger
“I am extremely concerned with vehicles speeding in our densely populated neighborhoods and urge drivers to slow down especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic,” Chief Bryfonski said. “There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to be traveling at such a high rate of speed, and I hope that this individual learns a serious lesson from this experience. It is lucky that no one was injured as a result of these reckless actions.”
VELEZ was transported to the Bedford Police station for booking and was released on $1,000 personal recognizance shortly thereafter. He is due to appear in the 9th Circuit Court – District Division – Merrimack in May.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
