Georgetown Police Share Results of “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign
GEORGETOWN — Chief Donald C. Cudmore reports that as part of the Georgetown Police Department’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, officers made over 100 motor vehicles stops, arresting one person for operating under the influence of alcohol and issuing numerous citations for other roadway violations.
Between Dec. 9 and Jan. 2, the Georgetown Police Department increased their patrols throughout town to prevent drunk driving related fatalities during the holidays. The initiative was made possible by a grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division.
“The additional state funding proved to be extremely valuable this holiday season, as it allowed us to greatly increase our patrols and remind drivers to obey the law and rules of the road,” Chief Cudmore said. “We hope to receive this grant next year to prevent impaired and reckless driving in our community.”
Police made 127 motor vehicles stops during the approximate three-week period. They arrested one person for OUI and summonsed another for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Additionally, officers issued:
- Five citations for speeding
- Sixty-five written warnings for speeding
- One citation for texting and driving
- Eleven citations for other offenses (marked lanes, failing to stop at a stop sign, etc.)
- Forty-three written warnings
The Georgetown Police Department was one of 202 local law enforcement agencies, along with the Massachusetts State Police, running extra patrols through the New Year as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over mobilization.
