Groveland Police Collecting Gift Cards for 8-Year-Old Boy With Cancer
GROVELAND — Deputy Chief Jeffrey Gillen is asking that the community give a special present to one family in need this Christmas. The Groveland Police Department is collecting gift cards for 8-year-old Connor Durkee who is battling a rare form of brain cancer.
Durkee, a third grader at the Bagnall Elementary School, was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in July. He lives with his parents and little brother.
Following his diagnosis, a close group of family friends formed “ConArmy” to assist Durkee and his family during treatment.
This holiday season, Groveland Police are working with ConArmy to help the young boy have a Merry Christmas by collecting gift cards for the family.
Residents can bring gift cards from any local retail store (grocery, pharmacy, gas station, etc.) to the police station, 181 Main St., until Dec. 24. Donations ranging from $5 to $25 will be accepted.
“Let’s help make this the best holiday season for Connor Durkee and his family,” Deputy Chief Gillen said. “Any donation, small or large, will help. We hope the community will assist us in supporting these residents in need.”
Additionally, public safety officials, including the Groveland Fire Deparment, will be decorating the Durkee’s home on Saturday with Christmas lights to ensure their residence is the brightest on the block!
