Maynard Officials to Review Housing Goals for Town
Housing Production Plan Identifies Needs and Demand, Establishes Goals for Future Development
MAYNARD — Town Administrator Kevin Sweet reports that after a year-long community planning process, the Maynard Housing Production Plan (HPP) will come before the Planning Board and Board of Selectmen for adoption next month.
Those who participated in the process for establishing a vision for housing in the community, or residents who are simply interested in learning more about the plan, are invited and encouraged to join town officials and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) at a joint public hearing on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. in room 201 of the Maynard Town Hall, 195 Main St.
The hearing comes after two public forums where officials and community members met to establish a housing vision for Maynard. Participants learned about housing need and demand in town and worked with MAPC to establish goals for the next five years and strategies to achieve them. Now, the Planning Board and Board of Selectmen will review the plan’s key findings and recommendations.
“We applaud the Town for working together and developing goals and strategies so Maynard can address this very serious issue,” Town Administrator Sweet said. “Our residents have proven to be an invaluable asset in designing the HPP and we are excited to move this process forward on Dec. 10.”
Both boards need to adopt the HPP before it can be submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development for approval. Once approved, the HPP will guide housing activities in Maynard for the next five years.
More information about the Maynard Housing Production Plan can be found here. Anyone with questions should contact MAPC Housing Planner Karina Milchman at 617-933-0738 or kmilchman@mapc.com.
