Police Collaborating with Chelmsford and Reading Departments to Connect Suspect to Similar Robberies
STONEHAM – Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department is searching for a suspect who robbed a Citizen’s Bank inside Stop & Shop, and who police believe may be connected to robberies in surrounding communities.
On Oct. 24, at approximately 10:30 a.m., police received a report that a man entered the Stop & Shop supermarket, 259 Main St., and approached the Citizen’s Bank, passing a note to the teller demanding money. No weapon was brandished, and no one was harmed in the incident.
The suspect then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. The teller described the man as in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, with tan skin and wearing a dark knit cap, big sunglasses, a black coat, blue jeans and sneakers.
Stoneham Police are consulting with the Chelmsford and Reading Police Departments to determine if the suspect is connected to recent robberies in those communities and are working with the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force during the investigation.
“We believe that given the mirror similarities in these cases that the suspect is likely connected to the recent robberies in both Chelmsford and Reading,” Chief McIntyre said. “This is an active and ongoing investigation and we are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Stoneham Police Detectives at 781-438-1215.
