Sudbury Police Department Investigating Swastika Drawn in Middle School Bathroom
Note: No photos are available.
SUDBURY – Superintendent Anne Wilson from the Sudbury Public Schools along with Police Chief Scott Nix of the Sudbury Police Department are jointly investigating a report of a swastika found on a boy’s lavatory bathroom at the Curtis Middle School in Sudbury.
“The swastika is a symbol of hate, and the Sudbury Police Department strives to ensure that our community is inclusive and welcoming to all people and cultures,” Chief Nix said. “We will investigate this, and we will make sure that students understand that hate speech will not be tolerated.”
The swastika was found by a building custodian.
The Police Department and Sudbury Public Schools will meet with students to ensure they are educated in the hateful meaning of the symbols and the repercussions of using them. Administrators met with 8th grade boys on Monday in two separate sessions to address the seriousness of the incident. Parents and guardians are encouraged to have honest, open discussions with their children about the situation.
Police and school officials have spoken with a local Rabbi in Sudbury, who has offered any assistance that would be beneficial. Officials have also contacted the Anti-Defamation League for guidance and educational resources.
The Police Department does not believe any specific student was targeted.
