Maynard Police Chief Appointed to Governor’s Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence
MAYNARD — Police Chief Mark W. Dubois has been appointed a member of Governor Charlie Baker’s new Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.
“Our charge is to improve prevention, enhance support and demand accountability for perpetrators to ensure they can no longer hurt others,” Governor Baker said in a statement.
The group consists of up to 30 representatives from areas like the Attorney General’s Office, law enforcement, the courts, higher education, advocates and health care.
Members will set recommendations for programs and funding sources to implement best practices for the response, prevention and treatment of domestic violence and sexual assault cases.
“I am honored to serve on this council and I’m committed to making a positive change in Massachusetts for those affected by sexual assault or domestic violence,” Chief Dubois said. “I looked forward to working with the Baker administration and other members on the council throughout the year.”
The Surgeon General declared domestic violence the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 to 44. In Massachusetts, 13 percent of all families entering the Emergency Assistance system cited domestic violence as the reason for homelessness.
