Burlington Fire Department: Motorist Injured by Falling Ice
BURLINGTON — Fire Chief Steve Yetman reports that the Burlington Fire Department responded this morning to a condominium complex for a report that a large piece of ice fell from a rooftop, onto a vehicle, injuring the driver.
Firefighters responded to 54 VIllagewood Drive, located in the Villages at Maple Ridge complex at 9:17 a.m. Thursday. On arrival, personnel found a female patient, located inside a motor vehicle, with a large piece of ice sticking out of the windshield. The ice had fallen from the roof of her residence.
The large piece of ice broke the windshield and both side mirrors.
The victim, age 49, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center by Burlington Fire Department personnel.
Chief Yetman would like to take this opportunity to once again remind residents, property managers, and business owners to clear snow and ice from rooftops.
“We are very fortunate that the victim in this instance was not more seriously injured,” Chief Yetman said. “However, as temperatures warm up and rain mixes with the snow already packed onto rooftops, it creates very dangerous situations like this if roofs are not properly cleared.”
A Burlington Building Inspector was called to the scene to assess a damaged skylight located on the roof of condominium.
