Maynard Fire Department Welcomes New Recruit from Fire Academy, Hires Another New Member

MAYNARD — Fire Chief Anthony Stowers and the Maynard Fire Department would like to congratulate Firefighter Michael Parr on his graduation from the Massachusetts Fire Academy (MFA) in Stow.

“Mike has already shown himself to be a reliable member, and he has fit in with the department very well,” Chief Stowers said. “We are proud to see him graduate, and we have very high hopes for him in Maynard.”

Parr has become a second generation firefighter.  His father, retired Wakefield Fire Chief David Parr, was the guest speaker at his graduation ceremony on Feb. 27.  Chief Parr served 43 years in the fire service.

Parr, 30, of Wakefield, was one of 24 graduates from 18 fire departments, including Clinton, Hudson, and Weston, who were part of the 224th class of the MFA’s 45-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program.  The MFA offers this program tuition-free for municipal fire departments.

The Maynard Fire Department has also hired Firefighter Michael Cisek, 22, as a full-time firefighter.  Cisek, a Maynard native, previously served as a call firefighter with the Stow and Lincoln Departments. He has completed Firefighter I and II training programs and is working toward an associate’s degree in fire science. He will soon attend the Fire Academy’s Recruit Program. He will also enter a probationary firefighter program.

“We chose Firefighter Cisek from a very strong group of candidates to replace a firefighter who took a job elsewhere,” Chief Stowers said. “We are eager to welcome him and look forward to a successful career in the Maynard Fire Department.”
