Saugus Police Arrest Wanted Men After Brief Hotel Standoff
NEMLEC SWAT Team Assists
The Saugus Police Department this morning responded a request from the Gloucester Police Department to be on the lookout for a wanted man who was believed to be in the Town of Saugus.
Police intelligence indicated that BARRY TROY, age 51, of Boston was staying at the Ferns Motel at 152 Broadway in Saugus. Saugus Police went to the hotel and found that his motor vehicle was parked in the parking lot, and the determination was made that the suspect was in one of the hotel rooms.
The suspect has a history of violence, and there were also reports that TROY may be in possession of a firearm. Therefore, the Saugus Police Department requested the assistance of the NEMLEC SWAT Team for entry and apprehension of the suspect.
The SWAT team assembled quickly and pulled an armored vehicle up to the suspect’s room. Shortly after the SWAT team announced its presence over a loudspeaker, TROY and another man emerged from the room and surrendered. No injures were reported.
“This is a fine example of police teamwork resulting in justice served,” said Saugus Police Chief Domenic DiMella. “Gloucester and Saugus police shared information, leading to the location of a wanted suspect, and the resources provided by NEMLEC ensured a quick arrest without incident or injury to officers or the suspects. I am proud of the work done today by Saugus Police and our partner agencies.”
The second man in the room with TROY was identified as FRANK MOORE, age 28, of Canton. Police determined that MOORE had a warrant for his arrest as well, and he was taken into custody.
TROY has been charged with violation of probation. MOORE was arrested on a default warrant for various motor vehicle offenses.
Today’s operation was conducted jointly with the Gloucester Police Department, with Gloucester Police detectives on scene from start to finish. The Saugus Police Department also sends its sincere thanks to the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT Team for its swift response today, which helped ensure a speedy and safe resolution to this incident.
