Heroin is a major problem right now, and a major source of overdose deaths comes from dealers mixing heroin with a synthetic opioid called Fentanyl.
Fentanyl is much stronger than “plain” heroin, and drug users are overdosing — and dying — at much higher rates when then use heroin that has been cut with it.
In Massachusetts, the Chelmsford Police Department recently deployed Narcan in all of its police cruisers, and other police and fire departments are following suit.
Narcan is safe, administered nasally, and has few side effects. It also will not harm someone if they are NOT in the midst of an opioid overdose.
