Navarre, Ohio firefighter Bill Whitmore has been a firefighter since he was 18.
Doesn’t sound so bad. Lots of young people join the department
But Bill Whitmore was 18 in 1946. He’s been on the job for 68 years, and he’s still responding to calls at age 85.
“Somebody has to do it, you know?” Whitmore sold Fox 8 in Ohio.
Thirty years into his career as a firefighter, Whitmore decided to become an EMT, responding to medical calls in his community and adding a new level of service for people.
He has no plans to leave the department. Whitmore told Fox he’ll renew his EMT license “at least one more time.”
“I’d be close to 90 then, I guess,” he said.
