Bedford Fire Department Responds to Tractor Trailer Crash on Rt. 3 This Morning
Driver Not Hurt, but 150 Gallons of Fuel Spilled in Crash
Bedford Fire Chief David Grunes today reported that the Bedford Fire Department responded early this morning to reports of a truck off the road after Exit 26 on Rt. 3 Northbound.
The calls came in at abut 5 a.m. On arrival, Fire Units found the tractor trailer had crashed about 75-100 feet into the woods off the highway.
Firefighters assisted the truck driver, who declined medical treatment. The truck was carrying non-hazardous cargo, but 150 gallons of fuel had spilled from the truck’s fuel thank. The fuel spill was rendered safe, and there is no danger to the community at this time.
One lane of Rt. 3 Northbound was closed for about 20 minutes as the truck was removed from the woods. The cause of the truck’s departure from the roadway is under investigation by State Police with the assistance of the Bedford Fire Department.
Fire officials cleared the scene at 9 a.m., after about four hours.
