Town of Andover Invites Residents to Second Community Conversation on Historic Mill District

ANDOVER — Town Manager Andrew P. Flanagan is pleased to invite residents to join the Andover Historic Mill District planning process, which will continue with a community conversation next week, hosted by the Historic Mill District Task Force.

Residents will have an opportunity to learn more about traffic mitigation options developed by Design Consultants, Inc., which created several methods to improve accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles within the Historic Mill District.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Hall Library, 2 North Main St.

Design Consultants developed those solutions based on resident feedback at a previous community conversation on Sept. 26. Approximately 60 residents attended the first session.

Gamble Associates will also participate in the upcoming session, emphasizing the opportunities that exist to identify strategic place making opportunities.

“The community will have numerous opportunities to contribute ideas throughout every phase of this project, and it’ll be their input that ultimately guides the town through this process,” Town Manager Flanagan said. “We’ve already begun a robust conversation around reinventing the Historic Mill District, and I look forward to working closely with all of our stakeholders to ensure that it continues to serve as a vibrant community asset.

The ongoing series of conversations, which will continue through March, are aimed at enhancing the Historic Mill District’s aesthetic appeal, vibrancy, walkability, natural features, amenities, transportation conveniences and cultural opportunities.

“These meetings provide residents with a unique role in guiding this process,” Director of Planning and Economic Development Paul Materazzo said. “I hope everyone will tale part in establishing a shared vision for the Historic Mill District by participating in the community conversations that will take place throughout the process.”

The phases of the planning process will occur during the late summer, fall and winter and will include:

  • Traffic and circulation improvements
  • Place-making
  • Environmental study
  • Water and sewer infrastructure
  • RFP Process
