Clubhouse Building Was a Total Loss
PLAINVILLE — Chief Richard J. Ball reports that the Plainville Fire Department has extinguished a 2-alarm fire at a YMCA pool clubhouse Saturday night.
The clubhouse building, at the YMCA Family Pool Club at Park Terrace located at 5 Berry St., was a total loss. The building was under renovation and is a popular swimming spot for local residents and families.
At approximately 5 p.m., Plainville Fire responded to 5 Berry St. for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, there was heavy fire showing from the clubhouse building.
Chief Ball struck a second alarm to activate mutual aid from surrounding communities to help put out the flames. Firefighters from North Attleborough, Wrentham, Norfolk, Foxborough and Cumberland, Rhode Island, arrived on scene, in addition to ambulances from Walpole and Mansfield.
Plainville Fire used multiple tanker trucks and ran hydrant lines to help put out the flames. It took approximately an hour-and-a-half to fully knock down the fire. Crews are currently overhauling the scene. There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Plainville Fire Department and State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
“The pool club is a beloved community gathering spot for many families here in Plainville during the summertime,” Chief Ball said. “Thankfully no one was hurt, but it’s very unfortunate that the fire resulted in a total loss of the building.”
