CANAAN – The Mascoma Valley Regional School District regrets to share news of the passing of Board Chair Claudette “Cookie” Hebert, who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 12.
Hebert was elected to multiple terms as the Town of Dorchester’s representative to the School Board, serving a total of 17 years. She served as Board Chair since 2016. She also served in numerous elected and appointed positions within her adopted hometown.
Hebert worked as a bus driver for the District for five years. She made personal connections with all of her riders, talking to them about their school work or pets, and decorating her bus for festive holidays. And she made sure she had a stash of snacks for children who may have been hungry.
She forged a special connection with Mascoma students who attended the Hartford Area Career & Technology Center in White River Junction, Vt., one of her routes.
“On behalf of the District and School Board, I offer our sincerest condolences to Cookie’s family and loved ones,” Superintendent Amanda Isabelle said. “Cookie loved Mascoma and loved our students. We would always see her at sporting events, concerts, and plays, and she was always so proud. As Board Chair, she worked tirelessly toward one goal: To make our District the best it can be, so that our students received the best education possible. We will miss her experience, guidance, and friendship.”
