Andover Fire Rescue Responds to Serious Motor Vehicle Crash
ANDOVER — Fire Chief Michael Mansfield reports that Andover Fire Rescue responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Monday afternoon that resulted in injuries to three people.
Andover Fire Rescue and Andover Police responded to Union Street near the I-495 on-ramp at 3 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, rescuers found that one vehicle had broadsided a second vehicle at a high rate of speed. Occupants of both vehicles were trapped, and firefighters had to extricate them using hydraulic rescue tools.
The drivers of both vehicles, a red Nissan Altima and a gray four-door sedan, were transported by Andover and North Andover ambulances to Lawrence General Hospital.
The driver of the Altima is identified as a 32-year-old Andover woman. The driver of the gray car is identified as a 20-year-old Andover man.
The lone passenger in the Altima was treated at the scene by firefighters, and there were no passengers in the gray car.
The crash is under investigation by the Andover Police Department. Speed appears to be a factor, based on a preliminary investigation.
The impact of the crash was violent, and there was a large debris field on the road. Union Street and the highway on-ramp were closed during the rescue efforts, cleanup, and investigation.
