Holbrook Police Department Holds Successful First Junior Police Academy
HOLBROOK — Chief William Smith is pleased to announce that the Holbrook Police Department successfully hosted its first junior police academy earlier this month.
The academy took place from July 30-Aug. 3 at the new Holbrook Middle High School from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, and was instructed by Officers Mike Eshner, Casey Surprenant, Justin Murphy and Detective Dan Ford.
Throughout the week, 24 students entering grades six and seven learned about several aspects of law enforcement, including defensive tactics, bullying, drug awareness, juvenile laws, and drill and ceremony procedures. They also observed SWAT and K-9 demonstrations, practiced team building exercises and squad-based competitions, toured the Norfolk County House of Corrections and completed physical training each day.
The academy was offered through the department’s Community Outreach Program, which is led by Officer Eshner and features various events and services throughout the year meant to strengthen ties with Holbrook residents.
