Newburyport Police Hold Successful “Fill a Cruiser” Food Drive
NEWBURYPORT — Marshal Mark Murray is pleased to announce that the Newburyport Police Department held another successful “Fill a Cruiser” food drive last weekend.
During their 12th annual holiday food drive in the Port Plaza on Dec. 2, Newburyport Police collected more than 500 pre-packaged bags of food and more than $1,000 in cash and gift cards to donate to the Salvation Army of Newburyport.
Both Shaw’s and Market Basket had pre-packaged bags available for purchase, which customers could then drop off to the police officers who were stationed outside the stores.
“This event is one we look forward to each year and I am so proud of the officers and volunteers who make it possible,” said Marshal Murray. “I am also incredibly thankful for our community’s generosity to make this yet another successful drive, surpassing the amount of food we collected last year.”
Marshal Murray would like to offer a special thank you to Officers Rob Vatcher and Matthew Whitty for organizing the food drive, and to Market Basket, Shaw’s, Domino’s Pizza, the Newburyport Department of Public Works, Ray and Marsha Frost, Michael Finnegan, Henry Bowden, Nate Hazlitt, Caroline Affolter, Dispatcher Michelle Delano and family, records clerk Laurie Brown and Officer Dani Sinclair for donating their time and resources.
