Groveland Police Department Investigating Series of Car Break-ins

GROVELAND – Deputy Chief Jeffrey Gillen reports that the Groveland Police Department is investigating a series of break-ins and thefts from motor vehicles that occurred early this morning.

On Monday, Jan. 23, Groveland Police received 14 calls from residents reporting that their vehicles had been entered and items were missing.

The break-ins were reported in the areas of Holly Lane, Seven Star Road, Center Street, Governor’s Road, Balch Avenue and Main Street. In all cases, victim’s vehicles were unlocked. Residents reported that a wallet, sunglasses and a bag filled with personal items were stolen.

One resident noticed a man walking on Seven Star Road between 2:30-3 a.m. Other eyewitnesses also saw a white male, approximately 20 years old, with a slender build and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and light colored pants in their neighborhood around that time. The man was seen entering a tan/beige Chevy Suburban operated by a woman. The vehicle was reported as having white stickers on the rear window of the driver’s side.

To prevent becoming a victim of theft, the Groveland Police Department offers the following tips:

  • Always lock all car doors.
  • Roll up windows and close sunroofs.
  • Never leave loose electronics in plain view.
  • Do not leave money in your car or loose change in plain view.
  • Call police immediately if you notice something missing.

“We want to remind residents to always lock their cars and bring all valuable items inside, no matter the time of day,” Deputy Chief Gillen said. “We also encourage community members to immediately report any suspicious behavior or activity they notice in town. If you see something, say something.”

Anyone who would like to report a car break-in, or who has information on the break-ins that occurred this morning in town, are asked to call the Groveland Police Department at 978-521-1212.
